Sri Lanka smashed 91 from their last 10 overs to post 274-6 in Mumbai, with Mahela Jayawardene making a superb 103. India lost Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar early on but Gautam Gambhir and Mahendra Dhoni rebuilt the innings. Gambhir was out for 97, but captain Dhoni's brilliant unbeaten 91 led India to a famous win with 10 balls to spare.

Sri Lanka overcame a serious bout of the jitters to book their place in Saturday's World Cup final in Mumbai, after holding their nerve to beat a spirited New Zealand by five wickets. The Black Caps looked set for a competitive score in Colombo, but they collapsed from 192-4 to 217 all out. Tillakaratne Dilshan (73) and Kumar Sangakkara (54) sent Sri Lanka charging towards victory before a flurry of wickets brought the match to life. Mahela Jayawardene, Sangakkara and Chamara Silva departed in quick succession as Lanka lost four wickets for 25 runs, but Thilan Samaraweera and Angelo Mathews kept their cool to see the hosts home with 13 balls to spare.

Reported earlier: Sri Lanka - the 1996 World Cup champions - will meet New Zealand in Tuesday’s semi-final in Colombo. They have won their previous four World Cup games against New Zealand. The overall head-to-head record is 35-33 in New Zealand’s favour but since 2000 it is 20-11 in Sri Lanka’s favour. In Sri Lanka, since 2000, the head-to-head record is 6-1 against New Zealand.

Birthday boy Ross Taylor's terrific unbeaten century - 131 off 124 balls - set up New Zealand's 110-run victory over Pakistan in their World Cup Group A match on Tuesday. New Zealand blasted 100 off last five overs to reach 302 for seven in their allotted 50 overs.

Pakistan's chase was derailed after half the side were dismissed inside 15 overs, with paceman Tim Southee picking up 3-25. Pakistan were bowled out for 192 in a win that sees New Zealand leapfrog their opponents to the top of Group A.

New Zealand displayed a clinically efficient all round performance to thump Zimbabwe by 10 wickets with more than 16 overs to spare in their crucial group league encounter of the World Cup at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera, today. Zimbabwe were undone by disciplined Kiwi bowling and lost half the battle inside of 15 overs when they were reduced to 46 for five.

The Kiwi openers Martin Guptill (86 n.o., 108b, 7x4, 2x6) and Brendon McCullum (76, 95b, 6x4, 2x6) showed enough restraint while facing Zimbabwe spinners in the beginning but still cantered home with 99 balls to spare. The duo's partnership was New Zealand's highest opening stand in World Cup matches and the highest of any team in this tournament.

New Zealand needed only eight overs to knock off the runs, with Martin Guptill scoring 39 and fellow opener Brendon McCullum adding 26 in Chennai. Kenya's total was the fifth-lowest in the history of the tournament.

Champions Trophy, Final: Australia wins Champions Trophy 2009

Australia have have become the first team to win the ICC Champions Trophy title twice, beating New Zealand by six wickets in the final at SuperSport Park. Chasing New Zealand's 200/9, Opener Shane Watson hit his second successive unbeaten century (105) to guide defending champions to a six-wicket victory with 28 balls remaining.

Earlier, electing to bat, opener Martin Guptill (40), Neil Broom (37), James Franklin (33) and Aaron Redmond (26) were the only New Zealand bastmen to pass the 20-run mark.

Watson was named man of the match, Ponting the player of the tournament, while South Africa's Wayne Parnell was the leading wicket taker with 11 scalps.
Australia's players will now head home for a short break before they depart for India, where they will play seven one-dayers against Mahendra Singh Dhoni's side, while a number of the New Zealand team will travel to India to compete in the Champions League Twenty20 competition.

New Zealand booked a place in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy against Australia with a convincing five-wicket victory over Pakistan on Saturday. Grant Elliott cracked an unbeaten 75 to help his injury-hit team achieve a 234-run target with 13 balls to spare. He received valuable support from Vettori (41), adding 104 for the fifth wicket. Vettori was named man of the match for his all-round performance including the three wickets he took for 43 runs.

Earlier, electing to bat, Pakistan scored 233 for nine. They were 86 for four inside 21 overs before Yousuf's (45) experience and Akmal's (55) aggression put them back on track with an 80-run stand for the fifth wicket. Ian Butler (4/44) was the most successful Kiwi bowler.

A fine all-round performance by New Zealand to defeat Sri Lanka by 38 runs in the Champions Trophy has left the Lankans on the brink of elimination.
Half-centuries from Jesse Ryder and Martin Guptill helped New Zealand amass 315 for the loss of 7 wickets. The Sri Lankans got off to a good start in response, with the opener Tillakaratne Dilshan hitting 41 from 31 balls, but they were eventually bowled out for 277 in 46.4 overs.

After losing their first match against South Africa by five wickets, New Zealand can now qualify for the semi-finals if they beat England in their final group game on Tuesday.

Man-of-the-Match Wayne Parnell took five for 57 as New Zealand were all out for 214 after being 163 for three with 12 overs left, despite Ross Taylor's impressive innings of 72.
South Africa were then guided home by AB de Villiers' unbeaten innings of 70.

South Africa's next game in Group B is against England on September 27 while New Zealand are also in action against Sri Lanka on the same day.

India's preparation for the Champions Trophy suffered a major setback with the 103-run loss to New Zealand after they were shot out for 198, chasing the mamooth 301 runs set by the Kiwis.
Indian bowling was ripped apart while batting collapsed like a house of cards at the Senwes Park in Johannesburg. In batting, Rahul Dravid (37) was engaging while Abhishek Nayar was the top scorer with a fighting 41 off 36 balls.
Yusuf Pathan was the most successful bowler with three wickets for 46 runs.

The Champions Trophy starts Tuesday with South Africa taking on Sri Lanka at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.

New Zealand on Thursday named former Indian Cricket League (ICL) recruits Shane Bond and Daryl Tuffey in their 30-member squad for this year's Champions Trophy in South Africa.

They topped Group F.
Kiwis, the pre-tournament favorites, only beat Scotland and Ireland and lost to semi-finalists South Africa and West Indies, to exit before the semis. Captian Vettori said a South Africa v Sri Lanka final at Lord's on Sunday looked to be on the cards.

The Kiwis were all out for a paltry 99 in 18.3 overs, after they won the toss and decided to bat first at Oval. After being introduced in the 13th over, Gul wreaked havoc in his three-over spell and emerged the first bowler ever to claim five wickets in a T20 international.

In a match that featured a set of brothers from each side, the McCullum brothers shined, with Nathan picking up 3 for 15, while his brother Brendon was outstanding in the infield, effecting run outs of John Mooney and Johnston, and then took a sharp catch to dismiss Cusack. O'Brien brothers had a forgettable match, scoring just 5 runs between them.

South Africa clinch victory over New Zealand in a nail-biting finish

Electing to field first, the New Zealand bowlers were successful in limiting South Africa to a low score of only 128/7. Ian Butler (4-0-13-2) and Nathan McCullum (4-0-18-1) deserve notable mention in this performance by New Zealand. Graeme Smith(33) and Jean-Paul Duminy(29) were the high-scorers for South Africa. However, the New Zealand batsmen were unable to convert the good performance by their bowlers into a victory. Brendan McCullum gave his team a solid start by scoring 57 runs off 53 balls. But the New Zealand innings lacked momentum and from 2-26in 3 overs, they reached only 3-82 in 14 overs. They needed 2 runs from the last ball to win, but instead lost the wicket of Oram in a run out. New Zealnd were able to take only 127/5 in 20 overs. Van der Merwe was the most successsful bowler for South Africa, taking 2 wickets , giving away only 14 runs and earned the title of Player of the match.

In a rain shortened match, Scotland looked as though they were aiming for the second big upset of the tournament in as many matches, but Jesse Ryder 31 (12 balls, 3 4s, 2 6s) and Ross Taylor 21* (10 balls, 1 4s, 2 6s) spoiled their day.
The 90 runs New Zealand needed to overcome Scotland looked massive before they started batting, but the heavy hitters made sure they reached the target in style with an over to spare.

New Zealand's unbeaten record against India in Twenty20s continued as they beat the world champions by nine runs. India took the field without Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan. Yuvraj Singh also did not play although he was on the team sheet. Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja batted well to challenge New Zealand's total of 170, but Dhoni, Gambhir, Yousuf disappointed the passionate Indian crowd at Lord's.

New Zealand defeat Ireland by 7 wickets in T20 World Cup warm-up match

Ross Taylor was instrumental in taking New Zealand to a seven-wicket win over Ireland in an unofficial warm-up match for the ICC World Twenty20 2009.
Jeremy Bray was the top scorer for Ireland with 48 off 47 balls, and Ireland, who batted first, made a total of 152-5. For Newzealand, Jesse Ryder took three wickets.
Ross Taylor's amazing 74 off just 36 balls was the highlight of the Newzealand innings, and New Zealand reached their target with three overs remaining. Connell closed with figures of two for 19 but New Zealand were still able to get home with three overs to spare.

New Zealand started brightly with Guptill (61 off 42) and McGlashan (35 off 35) batting carefully, before they began losing wickets. Nathan McCullum with an unbeaten 15 delivered the winning blow on the last ball.

Oram named in New Zealand cricket team for Twenty20 World Cup

New Zealand's cricket selectors took a gamble Tuesday by including injury-plagued all-rounder Jacob Oram in a 15-man squad for the Twenty20 World Cup.
Oram took no part in New Zealand's three-Test series against India because of a variety of injuries but had been chosen in the hope he would be fit, selector Glenn Turner said. Turner said New Zealand had to choose a versatile squad for the June tournament because of uncertainty about weather conditions in England in June.
All-rounder Scott Styris, who last played for New Zealand in December against the West Indies, has been recalled while all-rounder Grant Elliott and medium paceman Tim Southee have been omitted.
New Zealand will travel to England in mid-May and will play warmup matches against India on June 1 and Australia on June 2. The tournament begins June 5, with New Zealand in a group with Scotland and South Africa.

India has clinched its first test series win in New Zealand in 41 years when the third test is drawn after a rain-shortened final day.
India won the first test by 10 wickets and the remaining two matches were drawn. A century by Ross Taylor his second in successive tests and his record 142-run fifth wicket partnership with James Franklin (49) carried New Zealand to 281 for eight when rain began to fall Tuesday.
India declared its second innings Monday at 434 for seven, with an overall lead of 616, and New Zealand was still 335 behind when rain hastened the close of play.

IND v NZ, 5th ODI, Auckland: Ryder leads Kiwis to consolation win (IND 3:1)

The all-round talents of Jesse Ryder helped New Zealand race to a consolation one-day international victory by eight wickets over India.
Ryder took three for 29 with his medium-pace as India were all out for 149 in 36.3 overs of the rain-affected fifth match of the series in Auckland. The left-handed opener then hit 63 from only 49 balls to help the Kiwis pass their target with almost 20 of their 43 overs unused.
Ryder, who plundered six fours and four sixes, shared a second-wicket stand of 84 with Martin Guptill after the early loss of Brendon McCullum. Ross Taylor then finished the job alongside Guptill - but India have nonetheless won the five-match series 3-1.
India had earlier chosen to bat first but struggled as change bowler Ryder saw off the middle order, after Iain O'Brien and Jacob Oram had already put the tourists in trouble. Only Rohit Sharma (43no) resisted for long, once opener Virender Sehwag had gone for a typically belligerent 40 from only 27 balls.
